Interest for Limousin cattle was strong at the annual summer sensational
show and sale held at Bristol Sales Centre on behalf of the South Western
Limousin Cattle Breeders Club.
Both the days female and male champions achieved the leading price of
3,000gns.

First to take the top bid was the male and reserve supreme champion shown by EW Quick and Sons of Loosebeare Manor, Crediton, Devon. Their 19 month old home bred bull, Loosebeare Drogba, a son of Tomschoice Usurper and bred from a Strathallan Diplomat sired mother. Drogba carries a beef value of LM+33 which puts him in the top 10% for the breed. He was successfully purchased by GA Richards Farms of Newquay, Cornwall.

The events supreme champion from the Columbpark Herd consignment for
Vicky Maynard and Matt Smith secured the other 3,000gn bid. Columbpark
Urence, an eye catching third calver was shown with her bull calf at
foot Columbpark Escort. Urence, a daughter of Ringway Romeo and out of
a homebred daughter by Broadmeadows Lydo, has a successful local and
national show record to her credit. This outfit was knocked down to an
undisclosed buyer.
Three further cow and calf units from the Columpark herd all sold to
2,800gns. First was Aphrodyte another Ringway Romeo daughter which carries
both Rake and Bewick bloodlines through her mothers pedigree. She sold
with her March born heifer calf at foot to DJ & CE Nott of Ashreigney,
Devon.

Following was Columbpark Amarylis a second calver carrying Ronick, Tanhill
and Daim in her breeding, and sold with a March born bull calf at foot.
This outfit was sold to EJ & CM Ley & Son of Torrington, Devon.
The third entry to reach the 2,800gn mark was Columbpark April, another
stylish cow with her April born bull calf at foot from the Columpark
stable. April, another Ringway Romeo daughter and out of a homebred cow
by Greenbank Osirus, now travels to Wiltshire for FE Cottle & Son
of Trowbridge.
Topping the heifer classes was a two year old maiden shown by Bill White
of Devon. Exmoor Claret, a daughter of the noted Cloughhead Umpire sire
and out of a Sympa homebred mother. She was successfully purchased to
join the Nealford herd of JH Neale from Launceston, Cornwall.
Following at 2,800gns was a September 2007 heifer consigned by Martyn
Baker of Tiverton, Devon. Rill Countess, sired by Grahams Samson and
bred from a Ronick Hawk mother. She was sold to T Hilsdon of South Moulton,
Devon.
Exeter based breeders Columbjohn Farm Ltd sold their January 2008 born
bull for 2,700gns. Killerton Darwina, sired by Hafodlas Auron and out
of a Greensons Jumbo bred mother, sold to DJ & Mrs DJ Norman & Son
of Wellington, Somerset.
The commercial classes saw a top price of £1,400 for a pure bred steer
shown by Nick and Lisa Hill of Cheddar, Somerset. This attractive steer
sold to R Kingston of Bridgewater.
Averages - 5 bulls £2,509.50, 5 cows served and/or suckling £1,890.00,
11 served heifers £1,713.41, 13 maiden heifers £1,690.50, 5 weaned calves
£1,312.50, Columbpark Herd - 7 cows served and/or suckling £2,692.50,
4 maiden heifers £1,207.50.
